Source: Waveland Independent 7 December 1923 p5

Coroner McHaxton was called to Sand Creek yesterday morning to investigate the death of Charles Ray Harris.  It appears that Mr. Harris has been living in one of Edgar Adams’ tenant houses with his three children. One of the sons who slept with his father woke up and endeavored to arouse him when he discovered life was extinct. There was no way of knowing when he expired.  Mr. Harris was 53 years old and besides the children is survived by a brother, Joe Harris, living near Nyesville and a sister Mrs. Mendenhall who lives near Marshall.  The coroner returned a verdict of death due to organic heart disease. - kbz
